Romania , Gibraltar and China Commemorative Banknote

 


For the first time in Romanian history, the face of a woman is appeared on an official banknote.The Romanian 20 lei banknote featuring Ecaterina Teodoroiu's portrait.

Ecaterina Teodoroiu : (15 January 1894 – 3 September 1917) was a Romanian woman who fought on the front and died in World War I, and is regarded as a heroine of Romania.World War I veteran Ecaterina Teodoroiu is first woman to appear on Romanian banknote.After the war, Ecaterina Teodoroiu was elevated to the status of a heroine of the Romanian people.Henri Berthelot even named her the "Joan of Arc of Romania" for her outstanding bravery, patriotism and self-sacrifice.
Following the death of her brother, a Sargent in the Romanian army, she enlisted and served as a soldier on the frontline.
"First of all, she was the first female officer in Romanian Army, so, this is a matter of public interest," Mugur Isarescu, the governor of the Romanian National Bank (BNR), explained.
"There has been great support among our citizens, promoting and consolidating gender equality, and the major roles female personalities play in Romanian history and society".Considered a feminist icon by many world war history buffs, Lieutenant Teodoroiu died in battle in Marasesti in 1917.


Gibraltar 5 Pounds Note : Gibraltar £5 note featuring Queen Elizabeth II on the front and the Windsor Bridge on the back.The new note is beige and green with a facing head of Queen Elizabeth on its face. The back shows the 233-foot-long Windsor Bridge, a pedestrian structure opened in 2016 and on a list of the 25 scariest bridges in the world. It is part of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, and while it is said to offer a spectacular view, it is also 160 feet above the ground. It also sways, but tourism officials say that adds to the thrill.


Commemorative 20 Yuan China Note :People's Bank of China introduced one polymer and one paper banknote in commemoration of the 24th Winter Olympic Games, Year 2022. 20 Yuan Polymer banknote for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games features figure skaters on the front side and the "Ice Cube" on the back. And 20 Yuan paper banknote features National Ski Jumping Center in Zhangjiakou.
