সিকিমে নয়া পর্যটন কেন্দ্র হিসেবে গড়ে উঠেছে পশ্চিম সিকিমের এই ছোট্ট জনপদ। ৬৮০০ ফুট উচ্চতায় অবস্থিত পেলিং, বিশ্বের তৃতীয় সর্বোচ্চ শিখর কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘার সবচেয়ে কাছের দৃশ্য দেখার চমৎকার জায়গা হিসাবে পরিচিত। পেলিংয়ের অন্তর্নিহিত সৌন্দর্য ছাড়াও অন্যান্য আকর্ষণীয় স্থানগুলি হল সাঙ্গা চোইলিং মঠ, পেমিয়াংসে বৌদ্ধ বিহার, ও খেচিপেরি হ্রদ ইত্যাদি। মূলত তিনটি ভাগে পেলিংকে ভাগ করা হয়েছে— আপার, মিড্ল এবং লোয়ার। হোটেলগুলিও এই অবস্থানগতভাবে ভাগ করা। আপার পেলিংয়ে হোটেলের ভাড়া বেশি, লোয়ারে কম। কী কী দেখবেন— পেলিংয়েই রয়েছে সাইট সিয়িংয়ের ব্যবস্থা। হোটেল থেকেই গাড়ির ব্যবস্থা করে নিন। এশিয়ার অন্যতম উঁচু সিংশোর ব্রিজ অবশ্যই দেখার মতো। পেমিয়াংশি মোনাস্ট্রি থেকে কাঞ্চজঙ্ঘার দৃশ্য চোখে লেগে থাকবে। পুরনো রাজবাড়ি রাবডান্টসের ধ্বংসাবশেষ থেকে সন্ধের আলো-জ্বলা শহর দেখুন, মন ভরে যাবে। চারপাশে গাছ থাকলেও, খেচোপেরি লেকে কোনও পাতা পড়ে না বলে মিথ রয়েছে। আশ্চর্যের ব্যাপার, কোনও পাতা লেকের জলে দেখবেন না। বিকেলবেলা এম জি রোড ধরে সোজা ম্যালে চলুন। সেখানে আড্ডা দিয়ে অনেকটা সময় কাটাতে পারেন। ভারি চমৎকার পাথরে বাঁধানো জায়গাটি। মনে রাখুন, এখানে গাড়ি চলাচল নিষিদ্ধ। দু’কদম এগিয়ে আপন মনে ঘুরে বেড়ান। ফুলের ঝাড়, সুদৃশ্য ল্যাম্পপোস্টের আলো, সাজানো দোকানপাট, সুবেশ, গৌরবর্ণ সুন্দর স্থানীয় তরুণ-তরুণীর এবং পর্যটকদের ভিড়ে স্থানটি যেন অন্য মাত্রা পেয়েছে। দোকানগুলোর ফাঁকে ফাঁকে পাহাড়ের দিক থেকে হু হু করে বয়ে আসছে ঠান্ডা হাওয়া। মাঝে মাঝে ভিড় করে আসছে মেঘকুয়াশার দল। ঝিরিঝিরি নরম বৃষ্টি হয়ে তারা ঝরে পড়ছে পর্যটকদের চোখে মুখে। পাহাড়ের ঢালে রাতের পেলিং সেজে ওঠে আলোর মালায়। • সূর্যোদয়— পেলিংয়ে হোটেল ভাড়া কমবেশি হয় সূর্যোদয়ের জন্য। কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘার উপরে এত সুন্দর রঙের খেলা অন্য কোথাও চট করে পাবেন না। প্রধান চুড়োর একেবারে মাথায় একটু আলো পড়ে প্রথমে। তার পরে সেই আলো মাখামাখি হয় কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘার গায়ে। পাল্টাতে থাকে রং। প্রকৃতির এক অনবদ্য কারসাজি। কীভাবে যাবেন: শিয়ালদহ থেকে ১৩১৪৯ কাঞ্চনকন্যা এক্সপ্রেসে রাত ৮টা ৩০ মিনিটে চেপে পরদিন সকাল ৮টায় এনজেপি স্টেশনে নামুন। সেখান থেকে সরাসরি পেলিং যাওয়ার গাড়ি পাওয়া যায়। ভরা সিজনে গাড়ির ভাড়া হাজার দুয়েক পড়ে যাবে। এনজেপি স্টেশনে প্রিপেড ট্যাক্সি-গোত্রের ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। সেখানে খোঁজ নিয়ে দেখতে পারেন। আর যাওয়া যায় গ্যাংটক থেকে। তবে পেলিং ঘুরে গ্যাংটক আসাই ভাল। কেননা, তাতে সময় বাঁচবে। কোথায় থাকবেন: পেলিংয়ে থাকর জন্য জন্য অজস্র উন্নত মানের হোটেল রয়েছে।
Pelling is a small town in West Sikkim. The town of Pelling is famous for its magnificent views of the snow-capped mountains of Kanchenjunga and its ranges. It has a rich history, nature environment and local culture. Situated at an altitude of 1,900 m (6,250 ft), the location offers good views of the surrounding mountain ranges including the Koktang, Frey, Rathong, Kabru North and Kabru South, Kabru Dom, Talung Kanchenjunga, Pandim, Jopuno,Tinchikhang, Narsing and others. Pelling is as close as you can get to Kanchenjunga without leaving the material comfort of good hotels and due to its advantageous location, many hotels and lodges have established in and around Pelling. Dentam Valley : Dentam is a scenic village located 10 km from Varsey in West Sikkim District. It lies at an elevation of around 1,500 m. Dentam commands a constant view of the Kanchenjunga. The entire area is surrounded by forest of rhododendrons. Pemayangtse Monastery (10 km), Ravangla (69 km) and Hilley are nearby interesting destinations to visit. The village is an ideal spot for bird watchers and nature lovers. Trekking and mountaineering are arranged here. Accommodation is available at Pelling and Pemayangtse. Sangay /Changey Waterfall : Sangay / Waterfall is located about 10 km away from Pelling on the western slope of Pelling district of Western Sikkim. Situated at a height of about 300 metres, these falls are on the way to Dentam Valley. While descending, these falls disappear into the extensive greenery around the waterfall and because of the whiteness of the waterfall it appears like a great white line, with the backdrop of dense green vegetation. The fall flows through the Changey village from Ranidhunga and is considered as a famous tourist destination. Other villages surrounding this waterfall are Chhangey, Sapung and Bongten villages. Across these falls, tourists can also find Dentam Bazaar, which is an old village market housing a cheese factory. Rabdentse Palace : On the lower hillock, south east of Pemayangtse monastery, lies the ruin of the old Rabdentse palace. Rabdentse was the second capital of Sikkim established by the second Chogyal in the latter half of the 17th century. It was the capital of the erstwhile kingdom till 1814 A.D. The old palace and monastery complex are in ruins, and now Archaeological Survey of India is maintaining and undertaking the restoration works. The place is surrounded by dense forest with a water pond. The scenic view from the top of the ruins scanning across deep valley to the mystic heights of Kanchendzonga ranges is something to be cherished and etched in memory. Here one can visualize the remains of a once flourishing colony around the palace which was constructed after the consecration of Chogyal Phuntshog Namgyal in the 1641 AD. On walking through the chestnut trees with the mosses dripping down, one can come across a stone throne with three standing stones known as Namphogang from where the judge used to give his final judgment in those days. One can also see Taphap Chorten, from where the visitors had to take off their hats to enter the palace. After crossing the fourth and the final courtyard wall we can see the palace ruins in the centre. It is situated in a most commanding place from where we can clearly see the entire southwestern region of Sikkim. Adjacent to the place is “Dab Lhagang” Where the royal family used to offer incense to the deities. Rimbi Waterfalls : On the way to Khechopalri and Yuksam, near Darap Village Rimbi Waterfall is found. The waterfall leads to Rimbi River and is famous for the recreational activities like fishing. Spend some memorable moments with your loved ones here. Decent footfall of tourists is seen here during the summer months. The waterfall is placed at a distance of around 12 km from Pelling and about 5 km from Village Darap. Kanchenjunga Falls :- Kanchenjunga Falls is situated around an hours drive from Pelling towards Yuksom. It has water all the year around. Locals say it is fed by streams originating from the glaciers near the base of Mount Kanchenjunga the 3rd highest peak in the world. Tourists go from Pelling to see this waterfall. One has to climb a series of steep stairs to reach the base of the fall. The waterfall is set in sylvan surroundings and is really beautiful 25.05.2018
