A Trip to Latpanchar (লাটপানচার) & Mungpoo (মংপু )

লাটপানচার :- পাহাড়ে যাওয়া যদি নেশা হয় আর বার্ড ওয়াচিংয়ের হবিও থাকে, তবে আপনার বেড়াতে যাওয়ার আদর্শ জায়গা হতে পারে লাটপানচার। শিলিগুড়ি থেকে মাত্র ৪০ কিমি দূরত্ব পেরলেই এই পাহাড়ি গ্রাম৷ ১৯২৬ সালে ব্রিটিশরা সিঙ্কোনা চাষের সূচনা করেছিল এখানে৷ এখনও লাটপাঞ্চোরের মূল কর্মকাণ্ড সিঙ্কোনা প্ল্যান্টেশনকে ঘিরেই৷ অনেকটা চা বাগানের মতোই সকাল হলেই সিঙ্কোনা-শ্রমিকরা দল বেঁধে বাগানের পথে রওনা দেন৷ চা বাগানের ম্যানেজার, অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট ম্যানেজারদের মতো সুন্দর বাংলোগুলো পাহাড়ের ঢালে দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে৷ এখানকার নাম-ধামে ব্রিটিশদের প্রভাব৷ কথায় কথায় ‘লাট’ জুড়ে দেওয়ার প্রবণতা৷ এখন যে বন বাংলোটি রয়েছে সেটি লাটকোঠিতে৷ পাঞ্চোর শব্দের অর্থ বেত৷ তার আগে জুড়েছে লাট৷ লাটপানচারের উচ্চতা 4200 ফুট । মহানন্দা ওয়াইল্ডলাইফ স্যাংচুয়ারির সবচেয়ে উঁচু জায়গাটা হল লাটপানচার। তিস্তার অপূর্ব ভিউ, সিঙ্কোনার বাগিচা আর বহু রকমের পাখি চোখে পড়বে এখানে গেলে। হর্নবিল, বার্ন সোয়ালো, সুলতান টিট-সহ আরও অজস্র পাখি। লাটপানচারে গিয়ে ইয়াব্বড় ক্যামেরা-সমেত ছবি শিকারীদের দেখা পাওয়াটাই স্বাভাবিক। স্থানীয় গাইডের সাহায্য নিলে বার্ড স্পট করতে সুবিধে হবে আরও। স্যাংচুয়ারির আনাচে কানাচে পায়ে হেঁটে ঘুরলেই চোখে পড়বে নানা ধরনের পাখি। যাওয়ার আগে একটু সেলিম আলির বই পড়ে নিতে পারেন! কাছেই মংপু। রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের স্মৃতিবিজড়িত বাড়িটা দেখে আসতে পারেন এখান থেকে। লাটপানচারের খুব কাছেই চটকপুর গ্রাম। মাঝে একটা দিন ঘুরে আসতে পারেন সেখান থেকেও। লাটকোঠি, নামথিং পোখরি, মানা হিল্সও অবশ্যই ঘুরে আসবেন এখানে গেলে। এছাড়া পাঁচ কিলোমিটার মতো দূরের অহলদারাতেও যান অনেকে। সেখান থেকে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘার ভিউ অসাধারণ! তিস্তারও। পাহাড়ের সবুজ চোখ জুড়িয়ে দেয়। সবুজে মোড়া চারদিক আর পাহাড়ের ঢালে ছোট ছোট বাড়িগুলো দেখলে মনে হবে, বাকি জীবনটা বোধহয় সেখানেই কাটিয়ে দেওয়া যায়! হাঁটাহাঁটির অভ্যেস থাকলে জঙ্গলের মধ্যেই ছোট ছোট ট্রেক সেরে ফেলুন। ঘন শাল আর পাইন বনের পথ ধরে মর্নিং ওয়াক করতেও দারুণ লাগবে। অক্টোবর থেকে এপ্রিলের মধ্যেই লাটপানচার যাওয়ার সেরা সময়। গরমকালে গেলে বিকেলের দিকে একটু বৃষ্টি পেতে পারেন। কীভাবে যাবেন: নিউ জলপাইগুড়িগামী যে কোনও ট্রেনে চেপে বসুন। এখান থেকে লাটপানচার মাত্র ঘণ্টাদেড়েকের রাস্তা। কালিঝোরার পর থেকে চড়াই রাস্তাটা একটু খারাপ পেতে পারেন। গাড়ি ভাড়া করে নিন নিউ জলপাইগুড়ি থেকেই। কোথায় থাকবেন: থাকার জন্য রয়েছে লাটপাঞ্চোর হোমস্টে৷ এছাড়া বিশেষ বাড়িঘর নেই এখানে৷ অনেকেই সকালে এসে বিকেলে ফিরে যান৷ হোমস্টে-র যোগাযোগ: শ্রীমতি সঙ্গীতাসুব্বা, 9434855447 । আগে থেকে বুকিং করে রাখুন। অহলদারা ভিউ পয়েন্ট: এই স্থানটি থেকেএকদিকে ডুয়ার্স ও তরাই সমভূমির 360 ডিগ্রি দৃশ্য এবং অন্যদিকে কালিম্পং,দার্জিলিং এবং সিকিম র পাহাড় দেখা যায় । অহলদারা থেকে কাঞ্চনজঙ্ঘার ভিউ অসাধারণ! তিস্তারও। পাহাড়ের সবুজ চোখ জুড়িয়ে দেয়। সবুজে মোড়া চারদিক আর পাহাড়ের ঢালে ছোট ছোট বাড়িগুলো দেখলে মনে হবে, বাকি জীবনটা বোধহয় সেখানেই কাটিয়ে দেওয়া যায়!বলা হয় যে অহলদারা র সূর্যোদয় টাইগার হিলের চেয়েও বেশি আকর্ষণীয়! 

Latpanchar :-Latpanchar is a new tourist destination that is gaining fast popularity due to its unique location, grand view of the Himalayan range and the flora and fauna in the surrounding area. The small village is located in Kurseong division of Darjeeling district. At an altitude of about 4000 feet, Latpanchar is about 48 kms (2 hours) from New Jalpaiguri rail station and Bagdogra Airport. The most important attraction at Latpanchar is the grand view of the Snow capped peaks of Kanchenjunga range. One can also see the Teesta River, Kalimpong hill area, Algara, Lava, Tode, Tangda and the plains of Terai. The best part of visit to Latpanchar is that you can enjoy the beauty of the hill without having to jostle among tourist crowd. Latpanchar is close to the core area of Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary. Among the animals found here are the rare mountain goat (serow), tigers, leopards, gaurs, wild boars, different kinds of deer and monkeys, jungle cats, porcupines, civets, monitor lizards and snakes. Latpanchar is also famous for the medicinal plants it produces. In the last few years, the area has come up very strongly as home to a few rare species of birds. Ornithology enthusiasts have started flocking here from all over India and abroad for the unique bird species such as the Himalayan Pied Hornbill. The lake of Namthing (Namthing Pokhari) - Situated at an altitude of 4250 ft above sea level, the beautiful lake is the natural habitat for a number of rare species. Namthing Lake is only the second place in the region where you can see the Himalayan Salamander in the wild, the only other place being Jorpokhri. Latkothi - about 4 km from Latpanchar. The mountain road through the Cinchona, Sal, Teak & Pine trees reaches here to disclose the wonder of nature. You can spend a day in this place or may further visit the Kuhi area with special permit from the forest department. Colorful butterflies and birds will welcome you to the region Ahal Dara - This is the viewpoint from where you can watch the sunrise over the Himalayas. Latpanchar can be reached from Kalijhora which is on the Highway connecting Sikkim with Bengal. From Kalijhora an uphill journey of about 13 kms will take you to Latpanchar.

Ahal Dara View Point :- Ahal Dara View Point is located just 5 kms from Latpanchar Village. On a clear day, the view from our home at Ahaldara will mesmerise you. The location offers 360 degree panoramic view of Dooars and Terai plains on one hand, and Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Sikkim mountains and River Teesta on the other. Culminating in a grand display of the Kanchenjunga massif.This place is considered to be Sunrise point. Often visitors compare the view from here to that of the more famous Tiger Hill sunrise point.

মংপু :- মংপু দার্জিলিং জেলার একটি ছোট পাহাড়ি গ্রাম। এটি প্রায় 3,700 ফুট উচ্চতায় এবং দার্জিলিং থেকে প্রায় 31 কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত। এখানেই কবি তাঁর বিখ্যাত কবিতা 'জন্মদিন' লিখেছেন। রবীন্দ্র ভবন নামে পরিচিত ঘরটি এখন একটি যাদুঘর রূপান্তর করা হয়েছে । 1938 ও 1940 এর মধ্যে চারবার এই বাড়িতে এসেছিলেন ঠাকুর।তাঁর বন্ধু সুরেন্দ্রনাথ দাশগুপ্তের কন্যা মৈত্রেয়ী দেবীকে দেখা করার জন্য তিনি মংপুতে এসেছিলেন।রবীন্দ্রনাথ এখানে আসতেন মৈত্রেয়ী দেবীর বাসভবনে৷ সিঙ্কোনা প্ল্যানটেশনে চাকরি করার সূত্রে ওই বাসভবনটি পেয়েছিলেন মৈত্রেয়ী দেবীর স্বামী মনমোহন সেন৷ সিঙ্কোনা প্ল্যান্টেশনের ওয়ার্কশপ লাগোয়া যে বাড়িটি এখন মিউজিয়াম হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়, সেখানেই রবীন্দ্রনাথের থাকার ব্যবস্থা হত৷রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর ও মৈত্রেয়ী দেবীর মধ্যে বিশেষ সম্পর্ক ছিল।মৈত্রেয়ী দেবী নিজেকে নিজের বইয়ে প্রকাশ করেছেন।রবীন্দ্রনাথের ব্যবহার করা খাট, চিঠিপত্র লেখার চেয়ার টেবিল এখনও রয়েছে৷ রবীন্দ্রনাথের কিছু পাণ্ডুলিপিও আছে৷ তার আকর্ষণেই পাহাড়ে এসে বেশির ভাগ পর্যটক একবার মংপু ঘুরে যান৷

Mongpu, also spelt as Mungpoo is a small mountain village in Darjeeling district. It's located at an average altitude of about 3,700ft and about 31kms from Darjeeling. Mongpu is also famous for being the summer residence of the great poet & Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The poet came to this place for its soothing and quiet ambience, and of course for its beauty of Cinchona plantations. Although the place doesn't have views of the great snow peaks, it has a charm of its own. It is here where the poet wrote his famous poem 'Janmadin'. The house known as Rabindra Bhavan has been now converted into a museum (known as Ranbindranath Tagore Museum). Tagore came to this house four times between 1938 and 1940.
